1. Wireless DSL isn't truly DSL The fixed wireless provides an experience similar to that of a broadband and therefore, people sometimes refers it to as wireless DSL. But the true fact is that it isn't truly DSL as DSL transmits data through wires but Wireless DSL transmits data in form of signals sent in air and received by wireless routers or modems. 2. In practical, actual speed is low The transmission speed of the Wireless DSL is considered to be 11 Mbps but in practical the actual speed is somewhat around 6 Mbps as data can't flow in both directions. Although wireless DSL provides low speed but it has the ability to support several users. 3. Wireless DSL offers shared connection The true DSL offers dedicated connection to its users i.e. each user has its own internet connection that can't be shared by others. But, in the case of Wireless DSL, the connection is shared as found in cable modem. Thus, with many users on a single shared connection the speeds are affected drastically. 4. Ping time is fast as compared to satellite The latency time or the ping time is faster in wireless DSL as compared to true DSL. The term latency or ping refers to how fast the response is received from a particular end. The faster the response, the better will be the quality and lesser the time it will take to transfer data between the two locations. Wireless DSL has a latency of around 40ms or less as compared to DSL or cable modem. 5. Premium Service Wireless DSL offers premium service as compared to DSL or cable modem. You are assigned a static IP as compared to dynamic IP assigned in the case of DSL or cable internet. With this feature, you can also run your own server. 6. Security The security of wireless DSL is maintained by the service providers as the technology itself provides no security of data access. Generally, service providers make use of firewall modems or routers that itself makes every wireless connection secure to some extent. Also, you can optimize your wireless DSL connection just like any other DSL connection. |
